Hoops Against Hunger is a non-profit, community-service organization designed to help develop teamwork skills and community spirit. We accomplish this by sponsoring annual, one-day basketball mini-camps at community centers and schools around the world.

Our goal is to encourage school-aged children to grow in both sports and interpersonal skills by experiencing interactive community participation and team spirit.

The first Hoops Against Hunger Basketball Mini-Camp was held in 1995 at William Penn High School in New Castle, Delaware on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Steve Johnson, head basketball coach at William Penn, wanted to expand the high school student-athlete's basketball experience beyond the realm of practices and contests. Coach Johnson hoped to build a bridge between the school and community that would provide a way for student-athletes, community members, and young children to come together for a worthy cause.

Since 1995, Hoops Against Hunger has conducted hundreds of mini-camps nation-wide and around the world. The program has brought community members together in sport, and has collected hundreds of tons of non-perishable food that has been cycled in communities to help those in need.
